Vocabulary is the foundation of learning English, yet many learners say:
“I study so many words, but I forget them quickly” or “I know the word, but I use it wrong.”
This issue is more common than you think – and it’s not your memory, it’s your method.
📌 A common problem: Study → forget → repeat
You learn 10 words per day, but can’t use them in real conversations.
Or worse, you use them incorrectly and confuse the listener.
❌ Examples: Using vocabulary in the wrong context
- 🔸 You say “She is very funny” to mean “she is cheerful” → but “funny” often means “strange” or “makes people laugh”.
- 🔸 You say “strong soup” instead of the correct “rich soup”.
👉 These mistakes happen because words are learned in isolation, without examples or real-life use.
✅ How to study vocabulary effectively
- Learn in chunks or phrases:
Instead of just “decision”, learn “make a decision”. - Always use new words in full sentences:
Create your own examples to understand how the word works. - Use images or real scenarios:
Associate “embarrassed” with a moment you felt shy or awkward. - Avoid translating word by word:
Direct translation often misses nuance and context. - Repeat words in different formats:
Listen, speak, read, and write using the same word in multiple situations.
🌱 Easy practice idea
Choose one new word and create at least 2 sentences with it.
Example with “improve”:
- I want to improve my English.
- This app helps me improve my vocabulary.
Learning is using.
If you don’t use it – you’ll lose it!
📣 Today’s Challenge
Write 3 English sentences using a word you just learned.
Try saying them out loud or recording yourself if possible.
